Welcome to the hotel where nobody checks out. When a desk clerk welcomes a group of tourists into his mysterious and crumbling hotel, the last thing he expects is that a lone girl on his tour may hold the power to unravel the hidden mystery that has lain for untold centuries within the structure’s walls. The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed bestselling author Scott Kenemore (Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving. As the narrator takes you deeper and deeper into the heart of the hotel, secrets that have been hiding for aeons begin to show themselves. Although he is quite prepared for this experience, there is some question as to whether or not the rest of the world shares this readiness.Kenemore’s incredible style and originality carry The Grand Hotel to places most people only see in their nightmares. And while we don’t know all of the secrets that lie within the Grand Hotel, we know that the person who does hold that knowledge puts fear into the narrator himself—a thought that ought to terrify everyone.Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. "This was a very weird and interesting book. This is my first Scott Kenemore book so I didn't have any expectations beyond what the description was.

As I first got into the book, it reminded me a little of The Shining or a similar creepy Stephen King story. Each person we meet in the hotel has their own story -- this is where I was simultaneously fascinated and frustrated. I found some of the individual character stories more interesting than the overall plot and I was frustrated because some I felt ended too abruptly with no real resolution -- the chef, the astronaut and the vicar's stories in particular just seemed to end. I don't have to have everything tied up in a neat bow but they all seemed to leave just a few too many questions. Somewhere along the way some of the stories felt more surreal like fairy tales than creepy stories and the final one reminded me of an Arabian Nights kind of tale (which after reading the author's note seems intentional).

All the stories were well written and very interesting (as I said to the point where I sometimes preferred learning more about them than continuing in the main narrative) and they all flowed well together despite having different "atmospheres."

I also got a little bored (sorry, I felt that way about halfway through) with the main story and what the point was. I am glad I finished the book because the hotel was not what I thought it initially was (I won't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it).

I really did end up enjoying this book and would recommend it. Just go with it and don't try to figure everything out as I did and you won't feel frustrated and will enjoy it more."
