"I have mixed feelings on Dear Wife. I was really invested in the story, but I still found it to be predictable in the end. I did have quite a few different guesses at first, but there were things thrown out in the beginning / middle of the book that made the final reveal(s) obvious.

It felt like there were red herrings just for the sake of having red herrings. Characters who were very important in the beginning of the story just sort of slide out of view later on. Storylines and characters were only there to be distracting, and I wish it would have been a more cohesive book as a whole.

I think Dear Wife could have used a sensitivity reader. There was some weird transphobic material, and also very stereotypical racial characteristics for characters instead of actually rounding them out as individual people. I'm guessing this was an attempt at diversity, and it didn't really work.

I was interested in the story and finding out what happened, but all of the issues listed above really lessened by potential enjoyment of the story. It was promising, but it felt like there was such focus on having clever twists that everything else was pushed to the side."
