"Criminal by Karin Slaughter is a riveting addition to the Grant County series, offering a compelling mix of suspense, emotional depth, and intense character development. The story alternates between the past and present, exploring both a cold case and the long-buried secrets that haunt its investigators. Slaughter’s writing is sharp, with a knack for building tension and creating complex, multi-layered characters. The interplay between Sara, Lena, and Jeffery is as compelling as ever, and their personal struggles add an emotional richness to the otherwise tense plot. While the pacing occasionally slows in places, the twists are satisfying, and the darker themes are handled with care. *Criminal* keeps you hooked until the very end, making it a must-read for fans of the series. 4 stars."
"This is the first book I have read by Karin Slaughter, but it won't be the last.

It covers many 'touchy' subjects in this crime/thriller novel. Drug addictions, prostitution, roles of women and minorities during the 1970's in Atlanta, just to name a few. There a few scenes not for the squeamish or faint of heart! Well written with characters that I actually cared about, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Although, this is part of a series, I think that it's enough of a stand alone novel to enjoy without having read the whole series."
