"A reread of a long-standing favorite, this book was everything I remembered it to be and more. I think it’s also my first 5-star review here!
Anna, formerly a Russian aristocrat, has her entire life uprooted when the Russian Revolution hits too close to home. She and her fractured family find shelter in England, where Anna takes on a job below stairs in an English earl’s residence. The attraction between them is real, but (as in any good romance story) there are complications.
I don’t know what it is about this book, but something about it is just charming and comforting. It’s a nice, soothing read without being dull. You’ll laugh, you might cry, you’ll root for the MCs to get together. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. This is one of the few historical fiction books that I actually like, and that’s hard to accomplish."
