'A brilliant modern love story. I found it atmospheric and transporting but also wise, clever and universal in its exploration of love, family and identity. I loved it' Cathy RentzenbrinkMizuki is a Japanese housewife. She has a hardworking husband, two adorable children and a beautiful Tokyo apartment. It's everything a woman could want, yet sometimes she wonders whether it would be more fun to throw herself off the high-rise balcony than spend another evening not talking to her husband or hanging up laundry. Then, one rainy night, she meets Kiyoshi, a successful restaurateur. In him, she rediscovers freedom, friendship, a voice, and the neon, electric pulse of the city she has always loved. But the further she falls into their relationship, the clearer it becomes that she is living two lives - and in the end, we can choose only one.Alluring, compelling, startlingly honest and darkly funny, Fault Lines is a bittersweet love story and a daring exploration of modern relationships from a writer to watch.

"A deeply thoughtful and sentimental journey of self discovery and love in urban Japan. There were so many rich cultural references that blend together the fascinating past, present, and future that is Tokyo. This is a romance, but more so it is a story of falling back in love with yourself, and the life that you have built, despite its challenges and withered dreams. Sarcastic and charming, with an ending that makes you appreciate the little things in life. "
"“All good stories begin with a girl and end in heartbreak. Ours is no different.”

I loved this story!
This book grabbed me right from the start and I couldn’t put it down! Each character had their own unique personality and of course, secrets.
Whenever I thought the story would go one way, I was hit by another twist, secret, and/or lie. Fault Lines is spooky, dark and so entertaining!
This adult mystery is a twisty tale about a girl who goes missing and the price of the truth. It is also set in Canada, which is another big plus for me!

I would recommend this for anyone looking to get sucked in an enthralling story which will keep you guessing till the end.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review."
"I feel… unsatisfied. So basically she choses her children instead of love because she can’t have both? She has to put up with a husband who pays her no mind because leaving him to be with someone who loves her back is… not happiness??? but yes it is??

I get this speaks to Japanese societal roles and whatnot but such a big turn in this book is her overcoming what is expected of her in Japanese tradition and society, but yet she is unable to overcome the final obstacle and put herself first over what is expected of her as a mother. ugh. the children will be fine!! you CAN have both girl"
