Emerging with a strange geared device, they disappear into the night. The investigation that follows draws archaeologist Tess Chaykin and FBI agent Sean Reilly into the dark, hidden history of the crusading knights—and into a deadly game of cat and mouse with ruthless killers—as they race across three continents to recover the lost secret of the Templars.

"Aside from the fact that this story-horse has been beaten to death in recent years, the writing in this particular retelling was deplorable. I often found myself laughing out loud at the insanity of it. Once again, it wasn't a book I could read to the end. Life is too short to read bad books, and if I'm going to spend my time in a story-world, I want to at least be able to pretend to like at least some of the characters. Every chapter hailing from a different perspective, some of them unnecessarily gruff, grew tiresome after just a few pages."
