They say Black Dow's killed more men than winter, and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand smiling by while he claws his way any higher. The orders have been given and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.THE HEROESFor glory, for victory, for staying alive.

"This book is very good but every other 1 of his other books is better ! And listening to them is a awesome treat. There is no better narrator than Stephen Pacey ! He was born to read Joe Abercrombie books ! The best dark, realistic, cool character named, real life topics with a hint of magic that I have ever read or listened to. "

"Third time reading this through and it is still my favorite Joe Abercrombie book. To make it the most enjoyable read, please make sure you read the First Law Trilogy and Best served cold first!

I wrote this in my review for Best Served Cold, but having Gorst and Shivers as the common thread throughout the First Law Universe is a joy to me. To have Gorst as a main POV throughout this book gives the proper attention to what a wild, complicated, absolute insane character he is. I would have loved to see him go to the North, but it would make the Union that much more bland without him."
"I love Abercrombie and the way he writes. He's probably my favorite author I've discovered this year. However, I think First Law #4 and #5 were just ok. I've given most of his books 5 stars because they deserved it, but I find these "interludes" lacking something. That being said, a 4 is still good."
