"The second book to "This Poison Heart", this one is even better than the first! This book has a lot more Greek Mythology thrown in, it has a great adventure in there and you never really know what the ending is going to be but it does have some predictable stuff in it. If you like Black girl magic, Greek mythology, plants, and sapphic love stories, definitely read this book"
"Written exactly like the first book, such as having the same slow start and the same theme of love between family and friends. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first but I still had a good time reading it."

"I have been DYING to read this book FOREVER and it was SO freaking good, some parts seemed to come out of no where but then we’re tied to past bits and pieces and it made ALOT of sense, over all I really liked it and highly recommend this short series "

"A great sequel and intriguing story that could stand on its own 10/10"

"I really liked This Poison Heart, so rating the sequel this low is really disappointing. My favourite things about the first book were the mysterious gothic atmosphere, the sense of discovery with Briseis's powers, and the family relationship and all of those things are basically abandoned in book 2 for a boring Greek mythology inspired adventure story. The romance is so bland that I kept forgetting the two characters were together but then they'd kiss and it was a bit jarring. The members of Briseis's birth family were not well integrated into the story, and the ending the LI gets didn't feel earned to me."

"CW: violence, gore, spice, some others

Giving a book a 3 is always a weird balance for me. It’s a perfectly average review, at least on my rating scale and not Amazon’s BS power trip of a system, so to give a rating exactly in the middle of a 1-5 scale always feels like I’m being either too harsh or too lenient. This is one of the few instances where I don’t think that statement applies.

Princess Eva’s 23rd birthday opens with a gauntlet, a fight to the death to pick her husband, and it only gets worse for her from there.

There’s so much going on in this book, but it’s only 350 and some odd pages, which I think is part of the problem. It’s too much story and not enough pages. There are too many moving parts and none of them really get the attention that they deserve. At times it was really confusing, and some parts (including the very beginning of the story) felt almost as if there was more information and it was lost in the editing process, or that at some point a lot of editing and trimming was done, but the transitions were never smoothed back out. The main bits were there, but there was nowhere near enough of the ‘in between’ parts to make it all fit. It turned what could have been an incredible, complex story into a slightly murky whirlwind of teeth and plot points.

Despite the flaws in the flow, the story itself was really good. It was interesting, the characters we did get to really see in action were phenomenal, and I was interested in learning more about both them and the realms they live in. The writing was also well done; the settings were interesting, the emotions were fairly tangible, and there were several occasions when I actually laughed out loud. I think the story just didn’t have enough space to be fully realized in all its potential glory."
