"i appreciate the time and effort that roald dahl took to collect all these stories with as close a level of quality between them all as possible, as well as the insightful anecdote at the beginning of how his search for this collection came to be that even went out if its way to point out how women predominantly produced better horror fiction!
however, if this was a more modern piece of work, i don’t think my rating for it would have been as high, as there were outdated reoccurring misogynistic and similarly distasteful themes in many stories, but i say this with an understanding that this a collection from the 19s.
i had quite a few favorites, but sadly can’t find my physical copy of the book at the moment, and thus can’t recall most of their names, but “the corner shop” was definitely one of them.
overall, despite the lack of any actual chilling or truly scary stories, i’ve grown quite invested in this 8-book series and recommend “fear” the most so far."
