Emily Nagoski
An essential exploration of why and how women’s sexuality works—based on groundbreaking research and brain science—that will radically transform your sex life into one filled with confidence and joy.Researchers have spent the last decade trying to develop a “pink pill” for women to function like Viagra does for men. So where is it? Well, for reasons this book makes crystal clear, that pill will never be the answer—but as a result of the research that’s gone into it, scientists in the last few years have learned more about how women’s sexuality works than we ever thought possible, and Come as You Are explains it all. The first lesson in this essential, transformative book by Dr. Emily Nagoski is that every woman has her own unique sexuality, like a fingerprint, and that women vary more than men in our anatomy, our sexual response mechanisms, and the way our bodies respond to the sexual world. So we never need to judge ourselves based on others’ experiences. Because women vary, and that’s normal. Second lesson: sex happens in a context. And all the complications of everyday life influence the context surrounding a woman’s arousal, desire, and orgasm. Cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines tells us that the most important factor for women in creating and sustaining a fulfilling sex life, is not what you do in bed or how you do it, but how you feel about it. Which means that stress, mood, trust, and body image are not peripheral factors in a woman’s sexual wellbeing; they are central to it. Once you understand these factors, and how to influence them, you can create for yourself better sex and more profound pleasure than you ever thought possible. And Emily Nagoski can prove it.

"Why aren’t more people talking about this book???? This book changed the way I look at myself, my partner, and sex in general. It made me question things I had never thought to question, and it helped me let go of things I didn’t think I was capable of. This is a must-read for anyone who has had sex and thought “maybe I’m not normal”…which, let’s face it, is probably all of us. By the way, this book is great for men and woman, as well as straight and queer couples. It doesn’t cover much in regards to trans/non-binary/gender queer people, but the author also acknowledges this in the introduction. The book functions under the understanding that while gender is very much related to sex and sexual activity, Nagoski’s research can’t cover everything, and she is explaining *her* specific research. As a trans-non-binary person myself, I still got a LOT out of this book, and really do believe there is something for everyone in it. "

"This audiobook is a very educational and helpful tool. It's one of the most highly recommended books from various sex therapists and educators. <br/><br/>The author is also an american sex educator and researcher. It's chock full of insightful information that helped me a lot when I read and listened to it.<br/><br/>This along with a couple other sex education books I've been recommended to read by therapists and others has been helping me in a journey to unlearn my unhealthy toxic views on sex and relearn the sacred and positive nature of sex and intimacy, especially in marriage."
"<strong>An important book</strong><br/><br/>Ignore the racy cover - this book about sex was mostly about a woman’s most important sex organ, the brain. This book is a massive, well-researched volume on female sexuality and undoing the negative messages society delivers to women around sex, body image, etc. some might dislike the repetition around a few concepts, but I found it helpful as some explanations work better than others and you’ll find a few great metaphors for understanding scientific concepts."

"This was so fun! I went for a late spring skiing trip so this matched the vibes I was going for. I was pleasantly surprised by the emotional resonance of this; I enjoy a romance between two individuals who have dealt with life’s challenges in a healthy way and are able to overcome their own fears in relationships. It felt authentic and real, which was different than the lighthearted premise I was expecting. <br/><br/>I would happily recommend this, with age comes maturity and I enjoyed this compared to the teen or 20-something characters in romance I typically see!"

"Sure it’s interesting, but I’m struggling to finish it. It’s wayyy too long and repetitive. I feel like the important messages could have been said in half the book."

"500 characters isn’t enough to explain how phenomenal and important this book is for women! Especially those trying to reconnect in intimate relationships after many years of marriage or after having babies! This book helped me remember I am not broken. It helped me find words for my feelings and speak to my husband about what my mind and body need to be ready to receive and return intimacy. I recommend it to ALL of my friends now! "
