Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the Creedish death cult, has commandeered a Boeing 747, emptied of passengers, in order to tell his story to the plane's black box before it crashes. Brought up by the repressive cult and, like all Creedish younger sons, hired out as a domestic servant, Tender finds himself suddenly famous when his fellow cult members all commit suicide. As media messiah he ascends to the very top of the freak-show heap before finally and apocalyptically spiralling out of control.

"Bleak: that's what Chuck Palahniuk likes to write and he's very good at it. This book repeatedly reminded me how bad the world is in various ways. He hits social theme after social in such quick succession that you are dizzy sometimes. He has this writing style that is just a little offputting too. It's a little hard to read and takes a little to get used to it.
I don't think this was as good as Fight Club but it reads very similar to it. I think if you liked Fight Club there's no way you wouldn't like this. You have the same main character that hates his life, the same female love interest who never is deep down a love interest but is at the same time. You have the same hateable side characters. It's a different plot from the same book, and I still enjoyed it. The formula works for me. I don't think I could read this formula over and over, but I didn't have an unenjoyable time the second time. I liked the religious themes of this one, it made me think about some of the ways religion can trap someone. The ways he paints the celebrity life were also pretty riveting. I've never wanted to be famous and Palaniuk does a great job reinforcing that. He hits the sex-crazed America too. If I want more of his perception of that I can just read "Snuff" and I don't know if I really want to.
For some reason, the ending was a bit of a letdown for me. I thought there would be one last twist. It is a thriller after all, but it was still a solid four-star read."
"This is an amazing story. This is truly an awesome way to show how hard it is to survive in the wild and how you can't just give up no matter how much you want to (this even relates to everyday life too). There are so many sweet moments and it even gets steamy at times. Such a great read especially if you've ever liked watching shows about living in the wild."
"I'm reading Palahniuk's novels in the order they were published. The first thing I noticed about Survivor is that the writing style is exactly like Fight Club's, as it this part of my notes: staccato sentences, mired in small details, repetitive. The story made the style work in Fight Club, not so much in Survivor. I thought it started out pretty well, but about three quarters of the way into the book, I kind of lost interest. I expected to be somewhat disappointed by the time I finished reading, and sadly, my expectations were met."
"I read this book in relation to seeing fight club, it’s odd and interesting. "
