"I wanted to like this, but sometimes that's not enough. I didn't find a whole lot of development as the book progressed. I think the characters did the same things time and time again for most of the book, it's never a good sign when I feel like I could have skipped from 35% to 70% without missing a beat.
A lot of the things being talked about in this novel are important theme wise. I just didn't get anything from it, possibly because the characters talk in these overly complicated poetic ways the entire time. Sometimes it was beautiful, but most of the time it was annoying. Almost all of the time it was hard to understand. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I read the physical book because then I could re-read the sentences. The audiobook probably didn't do the novel justice. Then again, I could easily see myself DNFing it if I had read the physical copy.
I wanted flow and character development and it just wasn't there. McBride has some golden moments in the book, but the whole picture wasn't there for me. I didn't like the ending either, I'm not a big ghost guy. Maybe I was just annoyed at the entire novel.
