"It's both Sci Fi and classic. The first time I read it, I was puzzled, not yet grasping what was going on. But I soon figured it out.
Amber is a kingdom surrounded by Chaos. As one gets further away from Amber, the better the royal family can manipulate reality, doing things like calling up thunderstorms. But, that means that Chaos is closer. Perhaps uncomfortably close. Reality near the center is harder to manipulate.
There's several who are vying for the throne, one of whom is the narrator. The good guy, of course. He loves Amber and wants to do right by the realm. That means he needs to be in charge. May the best man win."
"One of the best and most unique fantasy series ever, about the schemes and power struggles among a large family of demigods with the power to travel between (or create?) universes. Zelazny's writing has a noir style that's very unusual in fantasy, at least at this level of quality; his characters are psychologically "human," but tend to be very wry and stylish. "
"Get ready to be enthralled."
