Bret Hart
In his own words, Bret Hart’s honest, perceptive, startling account of his life in and out of the pro wrestling ring. The sixth-born son of the pro wrestling dynasty founded by Stu Hart and his elegant wife, Helen, Bret Hart is a Canadian icon. As a teenager, he could have been an amateur wrestling Olympic contender, but instead he turned to the family business, climbing into the ring for his dad’s western circuit, Stampede Wrestling. From his early twenties until he retired at 43, Hart kept an audio diary, recording stories of the wrestling life, the relentless travel, the practical jokes, the sex and drugs, and the real rivalries (as opposed to the staged ones). The result is an intimate, no-holds-barred account that will keep readers, not just wrestling fans, riveted.Hart achieved superstardom in pink tights, and won multiple wrestling belts in multiple territories, for both the WWF (now the WWE) and WCW. But he also paid the price in betrayals (most famously by Vince McMahon, a man he had served loyally); in tragic deaths, including the loss of his brother Owen, who died when a stunt went terribly wrong; and in his own massive stroke, most likely resulting from a concussion he received in the ring, and from which, with the spirit of a true champion, he has battled back.Widely considered by his peers as one of the business’s best technicians and workers, Hart describes pro wrestling as part dancing, part acting, and part dangerous physical pursuit. He is proud that in all his years in the ring he never seriously hurt a single wrestler, yet did his utmost to deliver to his fans an experience as credible as it was exciting. He also records the incredible toll the business takes on its workhorses: he estimates that twenty or more of the wrestlers he was regularly matched with have died young, weakened by their own coping mechanisms, namely drugs, alcohol, and steroids. That toll included his own brother-in-law, Davey Boy Smith. No one has ever written about wrestling like Bret Hart. No one has ever lived a life like Bret Hart’s.For as long as I can remember, my world was filled with liars and bullshitters, losers and pretenders, but I also saw the good side of pro wrestling. To me there is something bordering on beautiful about a brotherhood of big tough men who pretended to hurt one another for a living instead of actually doing it. Any idiot can hurt someone.—from Hitman

"I’ve never really been the type of person who reviews books, but this book was...intense. I’ve only read a few dark Mafia books so far but I almost stopped reading this one because I was getting beyond frustrated with both Alaric and Monroe. I pushed through, hoping things would get less frustrating, it did not. The storyline was decent but there were a few things left unanswered. I would advise having caution with this one because it is definitely not a book for someone who can be triggered easily. All in all, as for a dark (emphasis on dark) mafia romance, it was good."
"4.5 Amaze Balls stars

HOLY HOT HELL!!!!! Hitman is from The Black Heart, Heaven & Hell series. Each book is a standalone focus around Club purgatory, an exclusive club to make your darkest desires a reality. Let me tell you that if the rest of these books are like this one. It’s a delicious treat. These ladies have blown my mind away.

Hitman is not for everyone, and it’s okay. There are several triggers, non-con, dub-con, sexual drug play, violence, murder, kidnapping, etc. On my dark scale, it's medium gray. To others, it’s black. I like my dark romance books, black and unsafe. My suggestion is to go in with an open mind.

Alaric is a hitman for the Lombardi family; after a hit, he goes to Club purgatory for some release and is instantly attracted to the bartender Monroe. He doesn't do relationships, and after one encounter with Monroe, he can’t get her off his mind. Alaric does what any good hitman will do; he stalks her. Yea, you see where this goes, and it's Scrumdiddlyumptious.

Four days after our ******-up little encounter, I've finally had enough. I'm going to give in.

I told myself before I got here that I'd lose interest in her. But the opposite is happening now. I'm becoming more and more intrigued by Monroe, and it ******* ****** me off.

Monroe is light to Alaric dark; at times, the story is sweet, especially with Monroe’s innocence. And how Alaric cares for Monroe. Don’t get me wrong. He is also intense and dark.

She is selfless, innocent, and so ******* sweet. She couldn’t be any more of my opposite. Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to her—opposites attract and all.

Hitman has a perfect balance between plot and steam. I love both character's development, especially Alaric. I was hooked, line and sinker from page one, and didn’t want to put the book down. The steam factor is 5/5. It’s smoldering hot with his unusual kink. And she is his perfect partner.

“I felt your **** squeeze my finger. Did you just come, Monroe? Do you like being helpless and unable to tell me no ? Do you like me doing whatever I want to you? Because I think you do. I think you like being a little toy, letting me use you however I see fit.”

I couldn’t get enough of this book, and I am adding this to my list of books I will reread in the future."
