"Definitely an interesting read - but I actually stopped about 2/3 of the way through because it was getting so repetitive. Diamond is basically an environmental determinist and he makes fairly convincing claims that the fall of societies in the American Southwest and the Easter Islands and so on are largely the result of environmental degradation (with clear implications for where we are today)."
