From Liane Moriarty, author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Big Little Lies and Truly Madly Guilty, comes an unforgettable novel defined by her signature sharp wit, page-turning storyline, and lovable and eccentric characters.Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one who got away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was going to propose, she broke his heart. A year later he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island—home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family, where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions. As Sophie's life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around—and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.

"Pretty good story and pretty good ending"

"This is my third or fourth book by this author. Each time I tell myself, I won’t read her again. I am once again telling myself that. Her books always start with an interesting grab, but they drag on and are never a solid finish for me. The endings of her books are always “too happy” or “artificial”. There is never any real thriller involved in the stories. There is always potential, but never follow through. The mystery is always a hoax or a mixup. Sadly, this book and this author just isn’t for me. However, she does get good reviews, and her books are very popular! She is clearly an author for many!"
"I wanted to love this book. Liane Moriarty is one of my favorites. I love the characters but the book was too long for the story. "

"The first half of this book was hard to get through as it was basically just full of miserable people getting more miserable. The second half started to provide some hope at last that said miserableness would be resolved, and the end provides some hope. I would say that anybody who needs to avoid reading about suicidal ideation and post partum depression should NOT read this book. As a new mother I really struggled with the intimate descriptions of a PPD mental state. The plot was pretty predictable honestly, but despite not really liking this book I did find myself needing to push through to the end. A few characters developed a little but I would have liked to see more."

"I absolutely loved this book! Now, I'm no literary scholar or fancy schmancy review writer (first time actually), but I like a good book and this was right up my ally.
First, the characters... Liane Moriarty's books always have a LOT of characters, but she has a way of matching the personalities to the names so perfectly, you can easily recollect who's who as you're going along. She's a genius as far as I'm concerned because I usually give up on books with too many characters. I don't have time to keep going back and forth trying to remember all that. Anyway, I liked every single character. Even smartass Veronika lol! And Rude Ron.
Secondly, there's SO many stories going on and they're all good. The mystery of Alice & Jack; Grace's struggle with postpartum depression; Sophie's love life; Margie's secret; Ron's epiphany; and many more. I loved that!
Thirdly, there were no loose ends really at the end of the book. I'm sorry but I like my stories all tied up with a matching bow-DONE. I despise cliffhangers and loose ends (unless of course it's a series). Worse yet, a thrown together ending like the writer had a deadline or just didn't know what to do so it got weird. I don't necessarily need a happy ending, but an ending. I loved the ending. If the ending is weird or sloppy, or leaves a lot of unresolved issues, I feel like I wasted my time and even if I had enjoyed the book up to that point, it will loose 2 stars just for leaving me hanging.
So there it is. I'm so happy I read this book. The last few books I read were "meh", (not from this author) so this was just what I needed."
