When a teenage girl gets a fresh start in NYC, she encounters the boy of her dreams—and an otherworldly curse—in this YA paranormal romance debut.Life hasn’t been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so starting over in New York City might be just what she needs. But transferring to a posh Upper East Side prep school isn’t so easy. Friendly faces are few and far between. And yet there’s one in particular that Emma is irresistibly drawn to: Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight. But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can’t stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma’s been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

"Enjoyable reincarnation story. I was able to get lost in the story for the most part. It wasn't too heavy into the paranormal or urban fantasy as I had thought when I picked it up. The slight magic elements to it made it more interesting, since the curse or magic didn't overwhelm the story. The story was really interesting, I tend to lean more towards the novels that are clearly paranormal romance or urban fantasy, so this was a nice change.

I actually found myself tearing up a little when reading about Emma's past. I couldn't imagine some of the things she went through. It was a different kind of character. She just wanted to be invisible, even if it didn't work out for her. At all.

I liked Emma. I didn't so much like Brendan at first. I didn't like the snubbing, I didn't like the reason behind it. I thought it was weak point, since I was expecting something big to have been the reason for the snub. But after about half the book or so, I started to come around and started to like him. I don't know if I completely loved him at the end though.

I'm curious to know if this will be a series or a stand alone novel. I got the galley on my kindle, and I have to say, the galleys don't format the the kindle well at all. There was a bit at the end, after the book ending, that I wasn't sure what was going on, but it did make me wonder if there will be a second novel. If there is, I'm excited to read it. Even though I didn't like Brendan at first, I still really liked this book and will look for more."
