"Something was missing from this story, almost as if the author held back. A lot of questions went unanswered and the plot unfolded too neatly. Most importantly the magic had no rules which means no balance. Even the fae mentioned had no fae like qualities except for elemental magic.
I was intrigued to begin with following Saoirse like she was indeed using her siren song on me. The way she lusted for blood and how the sea called to her had me enthralled. Probably my favorite thing about the whole story was the power her sister had over her beast. It is so very interesting to me to see an uncontrollable horror kneeling down in front of a beauty and forgetting its bloodlust. We usually only see that in fated mates.
Haye could not hold my attention. He was weak and spoiled. I'm sure he will get more character growth but he came off very flat to me. Most of the side characters were bland as well. The King and Queen were practically placeholders in the story. There was no history or complexity. It just didn't feel believable. Other than Saoirse herself I didn't much care for anything else."
"<strong>A part 2 is most needed....</strong><br/><br/>This book had me so engrossed I didn't realize I'd gotten to the end.<br/>Saoirse's character is so complex that you love her 1 moment and loathe her the next. (Not really loathe but outwardly groan at her decisions) Her life is full of lies and secrecy. She's dangerous but not because of the fact that she's a Siren, but because she loves her sister and there is absolutely NOTHING she won't do for Rain. So when Rain is threatened Saoirse finds herself working for the main people who can make life even more difficult for Rain( a human) , the royal family. The royals hate and enslave humans but they despise Sirens more<br/>This story follows Saoirse as she tries to figure out who is threatening Rain and uncovers a dangerous plot against the royal family. She also realizes that she's linked to those plotting against the royals and is tasked with finding her siren self. <br/>This book is full of tests of strength, love, and of course betrayal.<br/>It was a great read."
"Okay plot & world building. The idea is the kingdom is blocked off from the rest of the world & only fae, witches, & humans are allowed to exist. Humans are treated like slaves & the MC’s species (Siren) is illegal. I think I’m just aging out of YA (I’m 22) because the 17 year old siren seducing men and basking in the “taste of their lust” gave me the ick so I had to skip a good bit. It was also hard to be on the MC’s side because she quite literally loves to murder people she knows nothing about. I could relate to her desire to protect her young human sister, but outside of that she doesn’t have much personality other than murderous. ⭐️⭐️⭐️"
