Robert M. Gates
From the former secretary of defense, a strikingly candid, vivid account of serving Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. When Robert M. Gates received a call from the White House, he thought he’d long left Washington politics behind: After working for six presidents in both the CIA and the National Security Council, he was happily serving as president of Texas A&M University. But when he was asked to help a nation mired in two wars and to aid the troops doing the fighting, he answered what he felt was the call of duty.

"Understanding that this was mostly an introduction to Angelo and an opportunity to get the story from his POV, it was a good story. Angelo is a blunt, no-nonsense future mafia Don who has one major secret that can put him in the crosshairs of anyone wanting to take him down, he’s gay.

At the age of 35, his family want to see him get married and have some children. Serendipity, his mother mentions a woman in their circle who has been engaged twice but had never sealed the deal. He must meet her-and when he does, his gaydar goes into overdrive. Turns out she is a lesbian. Could this get any better. While he knows that while he will never have romantic feelings for Aria, she could be the ideal partner and their partnership will be the thing that saves them both (literally).

Aria and Angelo seem like a good power couple and I am curious to see how they will make their unconventional marriage work. Will they expose themselves to live their authentic lives, will they meet another “couple” like them who marry for safety and appearances?

Then there is Jay, the future love interest of Angelo. We see Jay a grand total of two times. Not sure how we will make the transition to his story and their joint story.

Overall, quick read and good introduction to Angelo and his and Jay’s story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review."
