A landmark in LGBT fiction, this captivating story of two teenage girls who fall in love is a “classic of the genre” (Publishers Weekly). When Liza Winthrop first lays eyes on Annie Kenyon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she knows there’s something special between them. Soon, their close friendship develops into a deep and intimate romance. Neither imagined that falling in love could be so wonderful, but as Liza and Annie’s newfound sexuality sparks conflict in both their families and at their schools, they discover it will take more than love for their relationship to succeed. One of the first books to positively portray a lesbian relationship, Annie on My Mind is a groundbreaking classic of the genre. The subject of a First Amendment lawsuit over banned books and one of School Library Journal’s “One Hundred Books that Shaped the Century,” Nancy Garden’s iconic novel is an important story for anyone discovering who they’re meant to be.

"4.5 stars!

This book was beautiful and devastating but so so hopeful! While it definitely has its faults and is very dated, what this book has done for the queer book community is incredible! Knowing that this was one of the first books that had explicit lesbian characters and ended with a happy/hopeful ending is incredible and I’m so glad I finally read this! Definitely recommend this one!"
"this was my first time as a gay person actually reading a romance novel with gay characters, and it was life changing. i LOVE this book. it made me cry and smile and laugh but the most important thing for me was that the focus of the book wasn’t just the romance. the author showed us the characters’ lives and struggles and it wasn’t all about them being in love, which for me is a super important part of a romance novel"
"A lovely story about two girls falling for each other, told in a straightforward and simple fashion. Maybe if someone read this book now they might think it’s not so special from the LGBT+ YA books that have come out in the years after that have explored the same themes and milestones. However this story stands apart from the rest because the author knows that expressing what happens and the emotions of the characters plainly is the most effecting way to convey to the reader that these two girls falling in love is just that, a completely natural thing that is wonderful and confusing and frightening, but at the end through it all is not something to be ashamed and ultimately worth it despite the pain and obstacles."
