In this third book in the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, new girl from Kansas Amy Gumm is caught between her home—and Oz.My name is Amy Gumm. Tornadoes must have a thing about girls from Kansas, because—just like Dorothy—I got swept away on one too. I landed in Oz, where Good is Wicked, Wicked is Good, and the Wicked Witches clued me in to my true calling: Assassin. The way to stop Dorothy from destroying Oz—and Kansas—is to kill her. And I’m the only one who can do it.But I failed. Others died for my mistakes. Because of me, the portal between the worlds has been opened. And if I don’t find a way to close it?Dorothy will make sure I never get to go home again. Now it’s up to me to: join the Witches, fight for Oz, save Kansas, and stop Dorothy once and for all.

"I admit I would never have started this series if not for the Oz connection, and I was delighted to find so many references to characters NOT in “The Wizard” : Mombi, Polychrome, Jinjur, The Nome King. However, the gut churning violence is not my style, although fortunately Paige rarely dwells on the grisly details. The matter-of-factness of carnage is chilling however: “One set of (character’s) jaws snapped shut and the bottom half of a monkey fell out of the air as he gulped down the rest.”. Yikes.

My favorite section of this installment was Amy’s return to Kansas, confronting both her high school nemesis Madison and her criminally negligent mother. Both have mellowed in Amy’s absence, and although I could believe that a high school bully might have unseen depths, it was tough to stomach Mrs Gumm’s turnaround from self involved addict to clean and sober loving mother in just a month. Granted, the shock of losing her daughter would be powerful but addiction just doesn’t end that quickly. Still, Amy’s cautious, prickly reunion with her penitent mom, and her mother’s desperate need to re-establish a loving relationship was deeply moving, and left me wondering how this story can end in anything but heartache. On to Book 4!"
"I thought it was quite funny and kind of cute how clueless the Quadrant was upon their arrival in Kansas. As was Madison & Dustin’s reentry to the story. But funny and cute didn’t last long, soon the Nome King (yes, nome. Not to be mistaken for gnome!) was introduced and it was back to Oz for Amy & the witches. I thought this was the final instalment in the series (excluding the prequels), but I see there’s a fourth novel. I really enjoyed this one and I look forward to the next."
