An imprisoned prince. A vengeful queen. And a battle that will determine the future of Elfhame. Prince Oak is paying for his betrayal. Imprisoned in the icy north and bound to the will of a monstrous new queen, he must rely on charm and calculation to survive. With High King Cardan and High Queen Jude willing to use any means necessary to retrieve their stolen heir, Oak will have to decide whether to attempt regaining the trust of the girl he’s always loved or to remain loyal to Elfhame and hand over the means to end her reign—even if it means ending Wren, too.
With a new war looming on the horizon and treachery lurking in every corner, neither Oak’s guile nor his wit will be enough to keep everyone he loves alive. It’s just a question of whom he will doom. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black comes the stunning blood-soaked conclusion to the Stolen Heir duology.

"Honestly this book was not as impactful as any of the other cruel prince books. Maybe it was because I don’t remember what happened in The Stolen Heir but I feel like this book went around and around in circles. I also felt like we were stripped of what was actually happening by not getting Wrens perspective of this book. To me, Oaks personality is just boring"
"I love everything about the Elfhame world. However, I will admit I was disappointed in the storyline of this duology. While I like Oak and Wren the focus on their romance did get tedious and repetitive. I wish this story would have had more politics (which is the best part of The Cruel Prince). I am also hoping Holly writes more stories to fix the horrible injustice she did to one character in this novel. IYKYK. 3 stars for the plot and a bonus star because I love the characters. "
"A good conclusion to Ren & Oak’s story. I kinda guessed what was going on & why Ren was letting the Old Hag have her way. If you’ve read CC 2 & 3, Oak’s personality was like Ithan/Tharian. Oak had the same situational awareness Ithan has. Basically winging it the whole way with no actual plan or choosing the lesser of bad ideas. I always felt bad for Oak and kinda figured he wouldn’t want to be king as an YA, so I’m glad Cardan and Jude finally accepted that! Which opens the door for them to have kids of their own which they clearly want. All in all, it was a good read! "
