Veral'monushava'skahalur is an oddity among his species, a lone Argurma cyborg divorced from his own kind by choice and to escape termination as a malfunctioning unit. Wandering the fringes of space as a salvager, he comes across a planet beyond the boundaries of the federation, rich in metals remnant of a dead civilization. Or so he thought.Confronted by cannibalistic mutations of the indigenous species, his salvage has suddenly become a lot more complicated. Even more so when he encounters a female surviving on her own. She is strong and fearless, begrudgingly earning his admiration. Terri is hardened by a life of hunger and watchfulness, and yet is moved by a compassion that he's never possessed. When his admiration turns into the first signs of a forming mate-bond, he knows his fate is sealed. Unlicensed mating is forbidden-if his malfunctioning wasn't already a death sentencing, taking her for her mate would be. Yet, he finds that letting her go is no longer an option. Please be advised that this book has graphic sex and violence that may not be appropriate for all audiences.

"<strong>3.75 star Loved unique alien</strong><br/><br/>I enjoyed the slow relationship between Veral and Terri. Getting to know each others differences and facial expressions. Vera's vibrissae (alien hair like sensors) fascinated me the way they seem to have a mind of their own. I love in alien situations where they have something totally unique and different from us humans that ultimately brings out it's own personality. I will say I did get a Predator like vibe from Veral and wasn't suprised in the end to read the author to cues from it.<br/><br/>Also Krono are you kidding me an alien type dog I freaking want one. He was so protective, smart, and apparently ugly. When he started to play with the kids I lost it. All I'm saying is Veral better buy his mate one. <br/><br/>Now some things I wasn't thrilled about in the story. I honestly hate when to people meet and it is repeatedly exercised that they could never want anyone else. I kind of get sick of hearing it and the way that Terri becomes smug when other girls approach him. It happens in far to many stories and I think it just takes away from the whole atmosphere. I start to roll my eyes and think "Okay okay I get it.....can we move on now".<br/><br/>I did enjoy Veral's possessiveness though he had a right to be worried that she would stay on earth or choose someone of her own species. Of course the adventure of the book is my favorite. Camping out and surviving always intrigues me because anything can happen at anytime. It also makes the characters tough and fun to read.<br/><br/>The bad guys in the story "The Reapers" just seemed like a bunch of childish idoits I'm not sure how they survived the end of the world. And I was confused at the beginning seeing how powerful Veral was how exactly he got overwhelmed so easly.<br/><br/>The overall learning of each other, travel, and affection I did enjoy this book. Just the smug stuff took a lot away for me. The ending was great though it almost made up for the rest of it and will highly consider reading book 2 when it comes out."
