Ray Bradbury
Few American novels written this century have endured in th heart and mind as has this one-Ray Bradbury's incomparable masterwork of the dark fantastic. A carnival rolls in sometime after the midnight hour on a chill Midwestern October eve, ushering in Halloween a week before its time. A calliope's shrill siren song beckons to all with a seductive promise of dreams and youth regained. In this season of dying, Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show has come to Green Town, Illinois, to destroy every life touched by its strange and sinister mystery. And two inquisitive boys standing precariously on the brink of adulthood will soon discover the secret of the satanic raree-show's smoke, mazes, and mirrors, as they learn all too well the heavy cost of wishes -- and the stuff of nightmare.

"Reading this is a sweet syrup for your brain. Dreamy writing. Explores themes of father/son relationships and coping with death and aging. It's interesting to see how the expectations of different age brackets have changed since the 1960s too, because I don't feel like 40 is considered old anymore."
"This was a really sweet book. Bradbury’s writing style is really great, I am always drawn in, but the relationships and themes therein that were explored while experiencing this very fantastical situation were just amazing. "

"Bradbury's writing style, for me, is better suited for short stories and novellas. Once it reaches 150+ pages, it becomes tedious. I didn't see any of the magic other comments have discussed, and found this book rather dull and predictable. I was holding out for a twist ending, but was left flat. "
"I wasn’t really scared by this but the writing style was beautiful and enchanting!"

"I have to say this book is so beautifully written. I enjoyed how the story developed and really enjoyed Charles Halloway’s character and how he developed throughout the book as well. Watching him awaken his relationship with his son was beautiful. The only reason I gave the book 3 stars is because I struggled through the beginning of the book."
"⭐️/5 Stars<br/>I really wanted to like this one, but is just wasn’t for me. The writing style drove me crazy. The constant metaphors and over detailed imagery made it so that I could barely tell what was actually happening and what was supposed to be the overall message. I was also terribly bored the entire time I spent reading this. I found that by page 40, I just didn’t care about anyone or anything within the story."
