Truly I did not expect to like this book so much. Like, wow. I read the first one, and this is muuuuch better. Elena has nothing on Gianna. Nico nothing on Christian. In TSO Elena is basically a glorified pet who can’t walk in her backyard without an escort, and Nico is a much less tolerable asshole than Christian. Also, there was much less personality and chemistry between those two. But Gianna and Christian? Oh my God. Gianna is quite amazing, she’s witty and fun and bubbly and had great tension with Christian. Christian was also way more interesting to read about and root for. There’s also the fact that it’s seven years of a slow burn, which I am forever a fan of. I’m so surprised I like this book, because I even tried to read the Darkest Temptation and had to DNF it pretty quickly because absolutely no part of that book should be considered romantic. It was giving me Penelope Douglas vibes, who I currently think is my least favourite author, and I avoid her at all costs.

My only real beef with this book is the lack of protected sex and the pregnancy at the end. It was really distracting every time they had sex and I knew it was unprotected. I think it would’ve been much better to just have Gianna and Christian finally be fully open and able to enjoy themselves together in the end rather than bring pregnancy into it. I genuinely cannot stand book pregnancies and it is usually an immediate DNF for me, but since it was at the end of the book it was slightly more tolerable.

Anyway, this was overall a titillating read!

Ugh I really love the slow burn of this relationship, even if a lot of it towards the end is just sex. Or maybe not so much a slow burn as it is a long game, if there’s much of a difference. I can’t say I love that pregnancy ending, though I’m 1000% unsurprised with the way they were acting like contraceptives were nonexistent. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever give a book with a pregnancy—whether in the beginning middle or end—5 stars.
And once again, Elena and Nico have nothing on Gianna and Christian. NOTHING

It’s like coming back to watch your favourite movie over and over again. I wasn’t even mad about the baby at the end! Good for Gianna (even though the sum of her life is being owned by a man, someone’s wife or being a mother with no real independence)
