"the story starts out with Kendra Sorenson and her brother. Kendra is fairykind and can see anything magical, but this time the threat is perfectly camouflaged. while she is at her job at a little kindergarten, she is taken hostage by someone she thought she knew, but it was a stingbulb. a small plant that pricks a person to transfigure into them, and obeys everything the person says. another stingbulb mimics her in shape and knows some of here memories. Seth and warren then figure out that something is wrong with Kendra. the stingbulb kills herself when warren and Seth to to question her. now Seth and everyone else thinks that Kendra is dead, and are facing more threats coming from the sphinx, which has Kendra in his custody

the problem is that the sphinx is trying to go after another artifact, but the key has been hidden by the former caretaker of Fablehaven, Patton Burgess, in a dangerous dragon sanctuary. So the sphinx does not take it, they realize that they have to go to the dragon preserve themselves. after figuring out Kendra was alive, and had rescued her, they go to the dragon sanctuary to gain the artifact and hide it somewhere safe. they do recover the artifact, but at a cost of lives, and the loss of friends.

the book was very sorrowful at the end, but their victory made me thrilled to read more. Brandon Mull is a genius writer, who can start out with the best words and end with the best cliff hanger. because of his detail to writing, the book was almost made into a non-fiction book in my mind. even though I know that fairies and goblins don't exist, in the world of books, I know that they can be real."

"Took me forever to finish reading this, and not because the book was boring, just life was happening, and time was rare resource to spare. The book was very enjoyable like the others in the series and definitely worth reading."
