"Okay, so I finally got around to reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, and honestly, I can see why it's such a popular book. It's a total page-turner! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, docking it just a little because some parts felt a tad far-fetched, even for fiction.
The story follows Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist (basically, a code-cracker for ancient symbols), who gets pulled into this crazy conspiracy involving the Illuminati, yes, that Illuminati. They're back, and they're not happy.
The action kicks off when a physicist is murdered at CERN, and a symbol is branded on his chest. Cue Langdon being called in to figure things out.
He teams up with Vittoria Vetra, the murdered physicist's daughter, and together they race against time through Rome, following a trail of clues left by the Illuminati. The descriptions of Rome are fantastic! Brown really paints a vivid picture of the city. I felt like I was right there with them, dodging ancient traps and exploring hidden passageways, that would be so much fun.
What I really enjoyed was trying to solve the puzzles along with Langdon. Brown weaves historical facts and symbolism into the narrative, making it feel like a real treasure hunt. Plus, the suspense is killer! There were a few times I literally gasped out loud.
Now, I won't give away too much, but let's just say things get pretty intense. There's a particularly memorable scene in the Vatican Archives that had me on the edge of my seat. And the assassin, well, he's a chilling character. Let's just say you wouldn't want to run into him in a dark alley.
If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller with a touch of historical mystery, Angels and Demons is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared to lose a few hours of sleep because you won't be able to put it down!
