An English woman discovers her new neighbors could expose destructive old secret in this domestic thriller by the author of Time After Time. After a night of fun back in 1992, Abby is responsible for a car crash that kills her beloved brother. It’s a mistake she can never forgive, so she pushes away Liam, the man she loves most, knowing that he would eventually hate her for what she’s done, the same way she hates herself.Twenty years later, Abby’s husband, Nate, is also living with a deep sense of guilt. He was the driver who first came upon the scene of Abby’s accident, the man who pulled her to safety before the car erupted in flames—the man who could not save her brother in time. It’s this guilt, this regret, that binds them together. They understand each other. Or so Nate believes. In a strange twist of fate, Liam moves into the neighborhood with his own family, releasing a flood of memories that Abby has been trying to keep buried all these years. Abby and Liam, in a complicit agreement, pretend never to have met, yet cannot resist the pull of the past—nor the repercussions of the terrible secrets they’ve both been carrying . . . "4.5/5 Stars

My goodness. I don't think I've ever read a book where I was being pulled in so many directions. I feel like I was brought along on their travels through the web of lies everyone created. Excellent read - I couldn't put it down!

(Summarization of the synopsis) The story sets out in 1992, where a horrific accident separates Abby and Tom (brother and sister), where Abby is responsible for the death of her brother. Abby, unable to move on, leaves her boyfriend Liam, the love of her life. Fast-forward 20 years later, Abby is married to Nate, living happily with their daughter. One day, new neighbors move in next door, which is none other than Abby's ex-boyfriend Liam. Abby and Liam embark on a web of lies from their past, leaving them with the repercussions they didn't expect.

What I liked: I always LOVE a multi-perspective books. It allows readers to see everyone's point of view, and in this case, everyone's secrets. What I also loved about this book was the interchanging of "now" and "then". I loved seeing the background of how the characters came to be. I loved their history with one-another. I'm a hopeless romantic, so Abby and Liam's story obviously pulled at my heart strings. But, DAMN, those secrets. If you haven't read this book, you should read it. Once the secrets start coming out, they don't stop. McKinnon does an excellent job on exposing secrets in the most nonchalant way, where it almost makes you take a double-take, and you have to re-read the sentence. So, so good. That's all I can say without giving too much away.

What I didn't like: all I can really say is that some of the plot was a little far fetched. However, this is fiction, it's bound to happen. Regardless of the literal craziness of everything happening, it kept me on the edge of my seat and engaged.

Would I recommend this book to a friend: Hell yes! Infact, one is already reading."
