Ideally, preparing for later life should begin well before retirement so that the senior years can indeed be the best years of life. In addition to financial planning, such preparation includes understanding the physical changes of aging, building lasting relationships, exploring spirituality, and creating a safe, secure environment. Written by a host of authoritative contributors based at the Mayo Clinic, this brief book offers an overview of these essential topics. Although packed with tips, facts, and anecdotes from older adults on everything from choosing a physician and estimating retirement income requirements to starting an exercise program and learning to meditate, this book is short on details. The information is useful and well presented, but readers interested in specifics will want to explore the numerous other books available on late-life topics. Unfortunately, there is no bibliography only a short list of aging organizations (with web addresses) and books and articles cited in the text do not include enough information for readers to locate them. These drawbacks make this a marginal purchase for retirement planning collections.
