Rob Lowe
Actor Rob Lowe's memoir presents a wryly funny and surprisingly moving account of an extraordinary life lived almost entirely in the public eye.A teen idol at fifteen, an international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at twenty, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences as a painfully misunderstood child actor in Ohio uprooted to the wild counterculture of mid-seventies Malibu, where he embarked on his unrelenting pursuit of a career in Hollywood. The Outsiders placed Lowe at the birth of the modern youth movement in the entertainment industry. During his time on The West Wing, he witnessed the surreal nexus of show business and politics both on the set and in the actual White House. And in between are deft and humorous stories of the wild excesses that marked the eighties, leading to his quest for family and sobriety. Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last twenty-five years. Rob Lowe's New York Times bestselling autobiography, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, shares tales that are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.

"Decent book but I really wish he’d had given more juicy details. We all know he lead a crazy younger life and he really didn’t get into it too much, just grazed over it. Plus, really didn’t care about the political side of his life and I highly doubt anyone cares either! I did audio version so it was nice to hear him read his story! "
"I listened to the audiobook.<br/>I appreciate that Rob narrated his own book, otherwise some of the things he tells in his book would probably make me lose interest and I probably wouldn’t have finished if I read the book myself.<br/>It was interesting to hear some of the things that go on behind the scenes of how actors are chosen or what goes on when playing parts for a movie or tv show.<br/>A lot of name dropping since he got to be around some of the actors who weren’t famous yet or had unique stories when encountering/working with some of them.<br/>The impression I got out of a couple of his stories was that the people who had him on their movie or tv show did him dirty by not paying him the amount he ‘deserved’ and it seems like he’s still maybe a little salty about it (I would be too).<br/>One of my favorite stories that I got out of it was probably when he met Martin Sheen as a kid and basically had him somewhat involved throughout his life. That and him overcoming his alcoholic addiction and how he met his wife.<br/><br/>"
"WOW! Rob Lowe is Forrest Gump. No. Seriously. Read this book and prepare to have your jaw agape for all the reasons: shock, surprise, stunning coincidences, legit chuckles, making the “aww” sound, and when you breathe a big sigh of satisfaction having read a thoroughly engaging book. I recommend the Audible version as it’s read by Lowe. I also recommend pretending you’re in Malibu and hearing these stories from Rob Lowe because you’re obviously his friend, or he wouldn’t be telling you all this."
"I LOVE Rob Lowe!....I remember being a college student and for the 4 years I lived in the dorm I had this HUGE poster of Rob in a white wife-beater and khakis that was absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, hanging right next to my bed. Every night I would tell him 'Good night' and hope that one day he would be mine....obviously I'm not his wife Cheryl....and I'm okay with that! <br/><br/>While reading this book....it was so much fun to go thru the years with him....I remembered where I was and who I was with when he talked about each movie he made....I loved the way he was so candid and open about all the choices and mistakes he made in his life. He also did great impressions of other celebrities (he did Christopher Walken and I was rolling while Rob was relating this incident). In fact....Rob is a really funny guy.......I found myself laughing out loud many times as well as I admit to crying a few tears, especially at the end....I did NOT want this book to end.....I truly felt like his friend, that I was just hanging out with him and talking about the good ole days. <br/><br/>This book was fascinating in the way it talked about making movies and the steps you had to go thru. The people he met along the way.....even when he was very young he was running into future actors/actresses along with big time stars. This told me that he was meant to be a movie/tv star....he would just be in the right places at the right time without even trying....it really was quite amazing to think about. He was also very candid on how vulnerable he was and how he struggled to be the cool guy when he was basically known as a 'nerd'. <br/><br/>There are so many things I could say about this book but I think I will leave it to you to jump in and read it. It will be a guilty pleasure...I can guarantee that. There is a part about 9/11 and his experiences in the days following it that will absolutely stun you. Rob Lowe has lived a fantastic roller coaster ride of a life and yet he has still learned how to live a semi-normal life outside of television and movies with his wife and 2 sons. He writes of his love for his family....his wife is his best friend and his genuine sincerity caused me to cry a few tears. I am sooooo glad I decided to read this book because it just strengthened the admiration and affection I have for Rob....he has been a part of my life since I was a young teen and I know that I will be watching him for a long time coming. Thank you Rob for making me feel like a true friend and sharing your stories with me!..."
"Truth. I tried to finish it, but I just couldn’t. I listened to the first 11 chapters. It’s just ok. I had a celeb-crush on him as a teen and was interested in his story. But life’s too short to finish a book that doesn’t resonate. Too many other books vying for my time and attention."
"I enjoyed the much more than I was expecting. Good balance of the expected childhood memories, career highlights, Hollywood inside info, and celebrity friend stories, along with some unexpected insights on life in general. Warning: anyone who reads this will want to watch The Outsiders and first four seasons of The West Wing immediately. And will still have a crush on Rob Lowe."
