"1st Read (2017): 4* —> 2nd Read (2023): 3*

This book was very fun and exciting to read. I remember this being one of the first books I’ve read with emailing format. It was so creative and new. I couldn’t put it down the first time and I couldn’t put it down now, several years later.

I love the quirks and the personalities of all the characters. I wouldn’t mind a side story with how Nadine and Tony met too. I loved their dynamic. Same with Stacy and Jason. The mystery plot was also a nice touch of spice into this story I wasn’t expecting. Lovely mix of genres.

I think maturity definitely took a toll on me taking this from 4* to 3* but with good reason. I just found Mel’s response to John towards the end to be quite inconsiderate and extreme— how it could affect his personal life. I probably passed over it and found it funny during the 1st read, but I felt bad for John this time around. Im pretty big on invasion of privacy. Luckily, it didn’t seem to cause major damage later on, but it still kinda bothered me. I also felt a bit empty towards the end of the book — expecting a more emotional or funny tie.

Nonetheless, ceteris paribus, I can see why I loved this book so much many years ago and deemed Meg Cabot to be one of my favorite authors. The writing style is an easy, addicting, and fun read. She is also super creative with her stories. Well done."
