A young London socialite is brutally murdered by a notorious serial killer in this "compelling" page-turner of dark secrets and deadly investigations (NYT bestselling author Jeffrey Deaver). Her eyes are wide open. Her lips parted as if to speak. Her dead body frozen in the ice . . . she is not the only one. When a young boy discovers the body of a woman beneath a thick sheet of ice in a South London park's pond, Detective Erika Foster is called in to lead the murder investigation. The victim appeared to have the perfect life -- what dark secrets is the girl in the ice hiding? When Erika begins to dig deeper, she starts to connect the dots between the murder and the killings of three prostitutes. All were found strangled, hands bound and dumped in water around London. As she inches closer to uncovering the truth, the killer is closing in. With her failing career hanging by a thread, Erika must now battle her own personal demons as well as a killer more deadly than any she's faced before. But will she get to him before he strikes again?

"4.75 star<br/><br/>Wow just realized I flew through this book in one day. Definitely didn't see the twist at the end which is the best when it comes to murder thrillers. Very cleverly done. Also the plot and writing was easy to read and follow along. About halfway through I was already considering the rest of the series. Just very well done all the way around.<br/><br/>What was my favorite piece of the story? The main character Erika of course. Beyond badass and by far one of the most awesome female characters I have read. She is cunning, brave, and even though she lost everything, even though she is looked down on, she never gives up her sense of morality.<br/><br/>Why is it that still to this day a person station in society still stays with them even to their grave? Just because a murder victim was a prostitute doesn't mean she is less entitled than anyone else in finding her murder. I wanted to stand up and clap everytime Erika gave a speech or orders. She was wicked smart and fought for fairness in the world were there was none.<br/><br/>Pretty sure the reason I was spurred on by this story was the fact that everyone turned against Erika even though they were on the same side. She gave it right back to them though, my kind of woman. The narrator Jan Cramer did a great job. Angela's voice was my favorite, hilarious, more of a cockney British accent. Asking Erica if she was a lessy. Haha. And I also enjoyed the vantage point of the killer that is highly unusual in a thriller from what I've seen but liked it all the same.<br/><br/>"Do you take the SIO seriously Sparks?" <br/>"Well seeing as how only one of us has it. Yes." He said.<br/>"SIO means senior investigating officer. The senior part doesn't mean your older than everyone and entitled to bully people when the **** hits the fan. It means you take the responsibility for your **** ups.<br/>"I don't understand." Said Sparks<br/>"That's been the problem. I've been reinstated to SIO and my first order us that you need to piss off."<br/><br/>Yaasss Erika you go girl! Kick his ass seabass!"
