She's left only with one certainty: she cannot trust anyone, least of all Raihn. The House of Night, too, is surrounded by enemies. Raihn's own nobles are none too eager to accept a Turned king, especially one who was once a slave. And the House of Blood digs their claws into the kingdom, threatening to tear it apart from the inside. When Raihn offers Oraya a secret alliance, taking the deal is her only chance at reclaiming her kingdom-and gaining her vengeance against the lover who betrayed her. But to do so, she'll need to harness a devastating ancient power, intertwined with her father's greatest secrets. But with enemies closing in on all sides, nothing is as it seems. As she unravels her past and faces her future, Oraya finds herself forced to choose between the bloody reality of seizing power - and the devastating love that could be her downfall.Full of heartbreak, redemption, bloody intrigue, and heart-pounding action, The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King is the gutting second installment of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, and the conclusion of the Nightborn Duet - perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

"It picks up right where the first book left off. I felt like it was trying to redirect the enemies to lovers trope, but overtime you came more to realize it was "regaining trust and love after being betrayed." Both characters grew so much, I loved their story, some of the side plots I thought could have used some more work, and there were a lot of holes that were just left open. All in all a great conclusion, leaves enough open for more books to follow. 7/10."
"I could NOT wait to continue this story!! The trials are over but Oraya is left to pick up the pieces of the traumatic aftermath. Her entire world hangs in the balance. This story is so rich…full of politics, betrayal, magic, mystery, the struggles of love and family, and a kingdom on the brink of war. I absolutely loved this duology although I’m not entirely convinced it’s over. Tiny criticism: I could have done without the overly repetitive “there she is” and “Ix’s ****” lines. "

This was an amazing conclusion to Oraya’s and Raihn’s stories. The enemies to lovers was done so right after where we left off in Book 1. I loved the difficulty the MC’s had against the coup and the fact that things were balanced on a knife point for most of the book; there were no happy coincidences. I would have loved more action than the all out brawls we occasionally got, but I couldn’t offer any suggestions on how to incorporate that into the story, so it did not affect my review.
I bawled like a child when Vincent’s memories cleaved his own struggles open. Vincent’s difficulty accepting his love was an incredible trait in my opinion, and very “in character”. His memories answered so many questions without giving them to us directly. In such a strange manner, he was humanized in his flaws, and I loved every moment of it. Oraya coming to terms with her father’s actions was such an amazing journey, and I’m so happy she is working on healing.
I am moving on to the second optional novel in this series, but I am more than excited to see where Mische takes us in Book 3. She is another amazing character that has a shining personality. Carissa Broadbent is an incredible author that has climbed the ranks on my favorite list much faster than I expected. "
"This book was AMAZING. This & the previous book are part of a 6 book series, but the first 2 books are a story on their own (they follow 2 main characters and mostly complete their story). This was a fun fantasy with a different narrative than I am used to. Super easy read with a little spice. If you like fantasy, fighting, romance, and a strong female lead (also a strong male lead), read this! I'm a new fan of this author and will be reading everything she has written (& can't wait for November for book #3 in the series)!"
"Didn’t feel that it was a good as the first book so you could stop at the first book even if u don’t feel like you should. Still great though. "
