Patricia Briggs
“Expect to be spellbound”* by Patricia Briggs’s #1 New York Times bestselling series starring Mercy Thompson. Being a lowly “walker” in a world of vampires, werewolves, and fae once kept her safe. But Mercy’s bark—and bite—are not so harmless any more… Though Mercy can shift her shape into that of a coyote, her loyalty never wavers. So when her former boss and mentor, Zee, asks for her help, she’s there for him. A series of murders has rocked a fae reservation, and Zee needs her unique gifts, namely her coyote sense of smell, to sniff out the killer. But when Zee is accused of murdering the suspect Mercy outed, he’s left to rot behind bars by his own kind. Now it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not. Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her... *Lynn Viehl, New York Times bestselling author

"Damn this book was good. It was just as good as the first two, but by the end I was reading through tears, which is a testament to Briggs' writing that should not be underestimated. I think her first person narrative makes the story feel very personal, as if the reader is experiencing everything through Mercy's eyes in real time, which makes the emotions that much more powerful. I didn't expect the ending at all, but ironically I didn't start sobbing until Ben's surprising character development. What a powerful way to bring in a side character.
**Spoiler**
Trigger/content warning: contains r*pe, not in graphic detail but it is told from the character's POV so the emotions around it are very raw"
"As I reread (or in this case, relisten), this is still one of the hardest books in the series to listen to, but also one of the best. So much is going on here, but what I like most is how much strength Mercy has that she doesn't seem to realize until much later. She is strong, though not without her faults or weaknesses.<br/><br/>After all this time reading this book, this is still the one where I can see my opinion change for one character. Maybe spoilery, but if it is, very mild: <spoiler>Ben's revelation in this changed my whole opinion of him and after reading this book the first time, my affection for Ben grew and grew until he is now one of my favorite characters.</spoiler><br/><br/>I dearly love this series and they get even better with audio."
