"I listened to this audiobook and I really disliked the narrator. He sounded like someone from the 1940s era that was reporting news of the war. Other than the horrible narrator, this book was very interesting and got very indepth about the entire journey of the Donner Party group. When it came to the obviously known gruesome ending, the author did not hold back. It helped, though, that he explained in scientific form the way the human body was starting to shut down. That was fascinating to learn and it helped to understand just exactly how much these incredible pioneers suffered as they tried to survive their unforgiving and harrowing experience."
"This is one of the best books I have ever read. I purposely read the book while on a trip to Alaska, as the setting there (snow, mountains, misery, etc.) largely fit with the settings inside the book and made it feel quite realistic. Couldn’t eat pork for a few months after I finished reading. 5/5 stars."
