I just read about a remake in the world for Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO. It is one of my all-time favorite films. I think it should NOT be done. What do you think? ,[object Object],

Ryan Doing direct remakes of Hitchcock never works. Psycho, Rebecca and Rear Window (among several others) have all had modern remakes, with notable directors, and they all were pale imitations. There are a ton of loose remakes that recontextualize Hitchcock’s work that are great but that doesn’t sound like what is happening here. I wonder if the only way you can get a psychological thriller financed, for theatrical distribution, today is if you attach some legendary IP to it.

Errika Mason I believe you, Ryan. I don't understand this idea. I believe that some movies are untouchable. The movie starring James Stewart is perfect as it is, haunting and beautiful at the same time. I hope that you are right, and this is a back door project for an adaptation. I would rather that outcome.

Craig S. I'll give the same answer I always do when the topic of a remake comes up. If it's good we have another great movie to watch, if it's bad the original isn't going anywhere. For me at the age of 50 I can't really keep interested in older movies because there are just too many treasures to watch from the last 4 decades I haven't seen yet and I'd absolutely watch this, especially for Downey. And keep in mind in a world where the younger generation is watching YouTube and Tik Tok all day, and there is a ton of new content being made these days, older media is just gonna get forgotten except for the cinephiles and film students. At least this way making remakes can draw attention to the original film and maybe give it a new life.

Errika Mason I appreciate your perspective, Craig. It is refreshing. I respect it. But I guess that I am just sticking to my cinema six guns. 🤩😂 The amount of new content is overwhelming, you are correct about that. I understand that some people simply don't have the patience to search for good films, or are completely unaware of them. Maybe they don't have a movie-aholic in their lives like us to point out where they can find what WE call classic films. 😂 I just don't understand the need for some directors to placate the younger generations that way. Make something new, but give a wink 😉 at the old, too. There is room for BOTH of our perspectives. We will see what happens. Downey Jr. is a smart man. He is the perfect actor to try this project. His production company was behind the remake series of 'Perry Mason.'

Errika Mason Yes, Brandon. I can understand that. I also agree that @djcount is representing an opinion of a lot of cinema goers too. I tilt more on the side of not just remaking films because they can. For me, discovering movies is part of the experience, especially older ones. Those definitely had a certain flare, and artistry. It will be hard to follow this act. But there is room for every opinion here.
