" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4 An expansive & extensive look at the evolution of black cinema, showcasing the vast array throughout film history and the lack as well as growth of opportunities for black filmmakers & actors. All reflecting racial injustice, stereotypes, and empowerment through a lens of the times in which they were made. I particularly enjoyed exploration on the rise of 70s “blaxploitation” cinema and the advent of cool yet politically or socially grounded soundtracks to sell a movie. This movie is quite a whirlwind that I wish could’ve spent a little more time on each film or genre in addition to it’s societal impact. Most movies are presented with just a mere few seconds of commentary so that the viewer is a bit jarringly thrust into the next while still processing the previous. There’s definitely a lot to cover! A must see for all film buffs. "
