"It was okay I enjoyed it and the family relationship. You have an idea of whats going on, but there’s a plot twist. "

"What the heck did I watch?
And why did I like it?
Truly and honestly, you have no real idea what you're getting into with this movie. A coming of age story, a satire against the little mermaid, a superhero movie, or in true dreamworks fashion a bash on Disney.
They portrayed it to be a "sike you thought mermaids were good and kraken evil? Got that wrong." But it's more of a girl trying to find herself deals with becoming a literal kraken, with a mix of family is everything, also there's a mermaid.
The animation is of course breathtaking thanks to dreamworks but the fact that the main characters are krakens with no spines, as they said themselves, it makes watching sometimes awkward. Still, the visuals are something else entirely.
Now, the story. Well, honestly, it's the most predictable thing with a touch of dreamworks spice. By that, I mean the process around getting to that inevitable conclusion takes unexpected leaps, turns, swivels, and everything in between. And you're gonna have fun during every pivot.
You're never quite sure what will happen next, but you do know where it's leading to. Plus, it kind of relies on you being so confused & awestruck all the time that you're far too curious to ever stop. A lot of the time the suspension of disbelief is going to break due to the truly unique & out there nature of the story, yet it still grounds itself well enough you adore that ending.
It truly satisfies the viewer by wrapping up everyone's part. Even the characters you truly forgot about get their finale. It meshes them all back into one rather well.
So if you can survive the strangeness, deal with all the wacky animation, ignore the stupidity of the people, not barf at their over the top moments, laugh through the strange creatures you meet, and adore the heartfelt moments you'll enjoy this film. It may even grow on you in unexpected ways."
