"Here’s the thing. Spiders, in general, don’t bother me. Big, aggressive, killer spiders that make clicking noises and attack in numbers from dark places make me very uncomfortable. Infested has some good stuff but focuses mainly on being a creepy crawly creature feature and it accomplishes that with great camera work and music. I could talk about all of the bad stuff (CGI, acting, writing) but those things don’t really take away from the fact that I was uncomfortable and grossed out and I watched to be uncomfortable and grossed out. Mission accomplished."
"I don't watch a lot of foreign horror films, but I thought this was great! I personally have arachnophobia, so I knew this movie would freak me out a little more than some others. However, I do think that this movie is a great choice for those who aren't afraid of spiders too! The acting was done well, the filming was great, the writing was good, and the CGI was fantastic! I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a great monster/bug movie!"
"A young man who is obsessed with exotic pets purchases a spider. It escapes and causes an infestation. Very simple set up but near perfect execution. They keep the direction fresh with different pans, zooms and unique angles. The spider effects are well done and I love how the tension increases as things quickly get out of control. The character were also a little deeper than expected as he is dealing with some family issues and we see that play out as they try to escape the building. It was a little long and the script could have been tighter. But I felt something touch against my arm while watching and immediately burst it away. That's the goal of any movie with insects. This is a good entry into the genre and one you should check out. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a full break down. On all streaming platforms. "Infested (2023), originally titled "Vermines," is a French horror film directed by Sébastien Vaniček in his feature debut. The story centers on Kaleb (Théo Christine), a nearly 30-year-old man estranged from his sister and former best friend. Passionate about exotic animals, Kaleb acquires a venomous spider that escapes in his apartment, leading to a rapid and deadly infestation throughout his building.
The film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews for delivering compelling thrills and developing human characters. Critics have praised its ability to evoke genuine fear, especially among arachnophobes. Beyond its horror elements, Infested incorporates social commentary on class and racial discrimination, as well as police brutality. The film's depiction of the harsh treatment of its characters by authorities and the government adds depth to the narrative, making it more than just a creature feature. The film's success has also been recognized within the industry. Director Sébastien Vaniček has been tapped to helm the next installment of the Evil Dead franchise, a testament to his effective direction in Infested.
In summary, Infested is a chilling and effective horror film that combines genuine scares with thoughtful social commentary. It's a must-watch for horror enthusiasts, especially those fascinated by creature features.

"Swarms of spiders and everything is very well done, incredible scenes that take your breath away, I like the camera movement that makes everything more scary in the scenes that have more action. The cast has well-developed characters and a cool story, but it could have been a little more dynamic in its development, the movie ends up being a little longer."
