"Oh god, what were they thinking? Sadie can sing, cept for that one Elvis auto tune song. The script and story were dragged out, confusing, and just dumb. My boyfriend and I just skipped to the ending after like 40 minutes into it maybe. Anyway, don't waste your time watching this. Two words "face job," if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about, if not just Google it instead of watching it."
"That was certainly a trip.
I debated on putting 2 or 3. I decided on 2 because of the excessive lights and flashing things. People with Epilepsy this is not the movie for you. It has a crud ton of flashing lights just like a concert would. I respect the artistic decision to include them, but my eyes scream no.
I do think many will find strength in this movie, but it's not a good movie. A great one can transcend beliefs in order to tell the story it needs to (Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar, The Shack, etc.). This one tried to dazzle you with everything it possibly could so you don't notice its hollow center.
Now this movie is a clash of dystopia future meets Broadway musical with a touch of a live concert thrown in. Despite that, none of the songs really wowed or moved me. Sure they were good enough & had a touch beauty, yet none I want to listen to again. Same as the movie, I don't have any attention to watch it again.
I will admit this shocked me in unknown ways. It has a fluidity to it, I couldn't quite grasp. It kind of worked but also didn't. I truly respect the artistic routes it took, the ways it chose to tell the story, the gender roles being flipped, the ending as a whole, & everything in between. However, it didn't work. The movie is progressive, yet it's also lost in the way it tries to go about things. It maintains a beauty I can't help but be impressed by, yet it has no foundation to it. The only way to get the most out of this movie is by seeing plenty of other movies first. It relies on movie cliches to be ingrained in you to truly make the impact it strives to.
Overall, the movie attempts to push boundaries. It attacked a concept I've thought about for years. Making a story about a girl & boy then switching their genders after finishing it. I'm not sure if that was the concept here, but it follows that plan to a T. I respect the decision despite the suspension of disbelief bending every now & then. I can see so many praising it but the faults overwhelm."
"Sadie Sink is fine as the lead in this movie, although the romantic scenes do not work (fully clothed, closed lip love scenes for starters) which is one of many things that "sink" this movie.
O'Dessa doesn't know what it wants to be. Everything in the movie is incredibly derivative and unoriginal.
A contemporary Americana soundtrack was a great idea for the story, The general plot is good, concept is good and in the hands of a better director and a director who didn't think he needed to write all the songs for the movie, we might have really had something.
The music in the movie is not horrible but there's no hit song there that's for sure and if you're going to base the look of Sadie Sink on Brandi carlile, why not have Brandi carlile song doctor your music, or get any one of the myriad number of amazing Americana artists out there who could have really made the music in this movie pop.

"Decent music, terrible movie."
