After bassist Jason Newsted quits the band in 2001, heavy metal superstars Metallica realize that they need an intervention. In this revealing documentary, filmmakers follow the three rock stars as they hire a group therapist and grapple with 20 years of repressed anger and aggression. Between searching for a replacement bass player, creating a new album and confronting their personal demons, the band learns to open up in ways they never thought possible.

"This documentary is a snapshot of the band in 2005. They have just released two terrible albums, almost unanimously hated by everyone (load, reload) and were their way to release their third terrible album in a row, St Anger. This doc shows them being extremely flawed, very angry at each other, and incredibly stupid. This may be their lowest point as a band, and as individuals. The fact it released is a godsend. I know I wouldn't want a video of me drunkingly buying a $5m painting out there. "
"Pretty good look at a band in crisis, their egos, and making it all work. I kinda wish the therapy part was a little bigger piece in the documentary. But worth a watch. "
