"I’m not sure how many people who live outside of Texas (or Cleveland, Ohio?) would even be interested in this documentary, but it IS college football, which many people love, AND it IS currently trending in Netflix’s Top 10,
so people are actually tuning in to check it out, it seems….
It’s very fast-paced (almost too fast), but I, for one, actually enjoyed hearing first-hand accounts from his parents, his former grade school buddy & college best friend, his former college coach (and former Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury), and Johnny’s former NFL agent all give their perspectives on the rise & fall of Johnny Manziel — former pro-ball player & first-round draft pick, former QB for Texas A&M University, and the first college freshman EVER to win the Heisman Trophy 🏆
I have followed college football—particularly UT & A&M college ball (as well as Manziel’s career)— for a long time, but I actually learned quite a lot of facts I didn’t already know by watching this.
For instance, I really had no fathomable idea about the actual DOLLAR AMOUNT of money that NCAA athletes like Manziel help bring to their schools — As a result of his winning the Heisman in 2012, that very next year Texas A&M raised a whopping $740 million in contributions. Yep, there’s BIG MONEY in College Football, folks! 🏈 Schools are then able to use that 💰 to make major improvements for the benefit of their their campuses, students, alumni & staff — AND Texas A&M was able to implode their old stadium & totally rebuild a new, state-of-the-art facility (Kyle Field) to help bring in even MORE money!
Perhaps it was players like Manziel who were being prevented by the NCAA to profit off the commercialization of their name who also finally helped change those worn-out NCAA rules in 2021.
I also learned a bit more about the NFL Combine process.
Anyhoo, I could say a whole lot more, but if you’re a fan of college football, you might get a few things out of this or even enjoy it … I certainly did 🏈

"The Untold series is golden. It’s enlightening and always showcases so many different perspectives.
I didn’t know very much about Johnny going into this, but I’m so glad I watched this episode. The NCAA is THE scam of the century and no one can tell me otherwise. He deserved better, athletes still deserve better. I cannot wrap my head around how much money he missed out on and how much money everyone else was making on his name alone. It’s sad to see the fall of such an accomplished athlete, but there’s always going to be a replacement, especially with zero guidance for young athletes.
I will say one thing - there’s quite a lot of questions left unanswered here - would the NCAA handle this situation the same way now? What about the consideration for NIL today? What if these frat boy antics were carried out by someone who wasn’t a white quarterback from Texas? I guess I’ll leave those questions to be answered by the professionals.
Overall, great series - great stories. Tune in if you haven’t already! "
