Emma Woodhouse has a rigid sense of propriety as regards matrimonial alliances. Unfortunately she insists on matchmaking for her less forceful friend, Harriet, and so causes her to come to grief. Through the sharp words of Mr. Knightley, and the example of the opinionated Mrs. Elton, someone not unlike herself, Emma's attitudes begin to soften.

"This is the only Jane Austen book I’ve read and it’s been a little bit, but I still had a bit of a compare and contrast going on in my head while watching it😂
I really enjoyed it! I did think, during the first part of the movie, that I thought of Emma, and maybe Mr. Knightly, as a bit bolder in the book, but I think it all leveled out and I can see the view point 👍
I think all the characters are wonderfully cast!! I was going to mention specifically Harriet Smith! And Emma’s father, who is basically the same copy from the book 😂 so funny. But Jane and Frank! And the literal so fast talking of Mrs. Bates 🤣
Loved it!! I would say one of my favorite Austen adaptions, but I’ve liked all that I’ve seen 😆"
"Sweet, familiar, setting, costumes, acting"
