Under Fire

"I’d never heard of this drama about freelance journalists working in Nicaragua during the 1979 civil war but I thought it was excellent. Nick Nolte, Gene Hackman and Joanna Cassidy comprise the trio. Its (failed) marketing plan revolved around love triangle between them but the real strength of the movie is its sense of place and how it examines the moral grayness of being a journalist when you are inserting yourself into a conflict of this kind. Jean-Louis Trintignant’s slippery gentleman spy for hire and Ed Harris’ ruthless black ops man add color to the film."
