"The Devils's Backbone is an amazing companion piece to Pan's Labyrinth maybe even some sort of prequel to it, the similarities are very striking and would go well together if you want a sad and traumatizing movie night. While it's not as good as Pan's Labyrinth the elements are still there but what seems like their infancy. I love how Guillermo uses kid's imagination and curiosity to tell hard stories about grief and trauma with being a child in a very hard time in history. This movie seems like it was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to these stories and if you loved Pan's Labyrinth I would say you will like and maybe even love this one as well."
"one of the best Del Toro's ever made. i like it more than Shape of Water and in my opinion it's a better movie than Pan's Labyrinth. the themes of greed, desperation, fascism, survival via cooperation, and people/objects frozen in time, forever--perfectly woven together. some REALLY excellent child acting, too."
"Hey, that’s pretty good!"
