"🌟👍🏾👍🏾🌟 Great cast. Well done all around. An #emotional look at the remarkable life of British abolitionist William Wilberforce (1759-1833), a human rights activist, cultural reformer, & member of Parliament, and his passionate twenty-year fight to abolish the British slave trade, a battle he won in 1807, as well as efforts to abolish slavery itself in the British colonies, a victory he ultimately achieved just three days before his death in 1833. He was an exceptional man who was a #hero to Abraham Lincoln and an #inspiration to the anti-slavery movement in America. #truestory #historical #biopic
▪️TRIVIA: Ironically, John Newton (who was played by Albert Finney) was once a slave ship captain (so he was pro-slavery), but he eventually found God & it was he who penned the song AMAZING GRACE. Newton became a strong supporter of Wilberforce & urged him to keep going in his fight to end slavery.

"Stellar performances in this period piece focused on the life of the man largely responsible for abolishing the slave trade in England. I’ve watched again and again!"
