Bumbling professor Ned Brainard accidentally invents flying rubber, or "Flubber", an incredible material that gains energy every time it strikes a hard surface. It allows for the invention of shoes that can allow jumps of amazing heights and enables a modified Model-T to fly. Unfortunately, no one is interested in the material except for Alonzo Hawk, a corrupt businessman who wants to steal the material for himself.

"I happened across this movie while scrolling through Disney Plus and remembered watching it and the sequel, Son of Flubber, on an old VHS tape recorded off a TV broadcast. Something I forgot about it was the innovation of the Professor, from the flying car, to the Flubber shoe heels, and Flubbergas in the sequel and its myriad of uses. They take the time to explain it, and it really follows logically from an engineering perspective, which is very strange for science fiction comedy made by Disney. One thing I also learned is that Herbie Rides Again and both of the original Flubber movies are in a shared universe, due to the overlap of the villain, Alonso P. Hawk. It's strange to think of sentient cars and flying rubber in the same world, but it makes for an interesting idea. The main character is kind of insufferable, but the story moves quickly enough he doesn't make me hate him. Highly recommend, as the first is only 96 minutes."
