"Joan Crawford is the best at portraying dramatic psychologic terror. She certainly outperforms every other actor except for Van Heflin in this drama about being swallowed up in emotion. Joan Crawford plays the role of Louise Howell, who is the live-in nurse to David Graham, played by Raymond Massey. The plot centers around Louise and the men in her life. At times the plot becomes a little muddled and confusing, but perhaps the viewer is supposed to feel that way, since we are watching Louise unravel in front of our eyes. Although I wasn't sure what to think of the twists and turns in the plot, I will always be amazed at the acting ability of Joan Crawford, and Van Heflin, who was equally incredible as the supporting actor."
