"This movie is Nazi propaganda. It was commissioned by Joseph Goebbels, and he approved every single frame of this movie. In it, they twist Frederick the Great into a Hitler figure to support their total war against Russia. In this movie, Frederick loses Kunersdorf not because his plan didn't work, but because of deserters in the Prussian Army. Frederick is the ultimate commander of Prussia and his word is law.
Frederick is a nearly sexless figure who dreams of going back to Sanssouci to play the flute and read Plato. In real life, Frederick brought his flute and books along with him to the war. In real life, Frederick was probably gay. If he existed in Hitler's Germany, he would be dead. Because Frederick had been dead for so long, he could easily be turned into Hitler's hero—homosexuality and Enlightened policies never mentioned."
