Some of My Best Friends Are...

"A movie that encapsulates a night at a gay club in Manhattan in the 70s. You can see (a limited but still vital view of) how things were in a slightly post-Stonewall world vitally how little things had actually changed for many. I particularly enjoyed how hostile everyone was to the area cop when he came in as part of his patrol. The characters can be a bit one-note but that's part of the risk when working with an ensemble cast this big. I think this movie does a particularly good job of feeling like a small piece of a bigger picture. Everyone does feel like they're part of a living larger community. That being said, massive cw for a brutal depiction of transphobic violence in the middle that even made me kind if squemish. It's a really rough scene to watch."
